The purpose of studying Buddhism is not to study Buddhism. It is to study ourselves.

Big Life

Baby boy Sorenson

Here's the latest addition to the family:  my great nephew born this morning in the wee hours, in Portland, Oregon.

His dad was in Chicago on a mandatory business trip, but he has arrived home to greet his son.  No telling yet if big sister Olivia is happy or confused, or what.

Life is working out pretty well for my nephew and his wife: he just landed a big job fresh out of school, and she can now stay at home to raise the two children, which is what she wants to do.  No small feat in this day and age of high unemployment and sagging economies.

My older sister now has a new grandchild, and my parents have 3 great-grandchildren.

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through.

And the seasons they go 'round and 'round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and 'round and 'round
In the circle game
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.
