Could You Be This Brave?

I am inspired by the story of Muslim and Christian women joining together in Liberia to protest for peace.  You can see some of the story here.  Whether by my own doing, or lack of media coverage in the U.S., I didn't know this story of profound bravery.  A peaceful movement of women who were tired of war and all the war crimes visited upon them by warring factions.  Soldiers from every side were told to take what they wanted when they raided towns and villages.  They had guns.  They raped women, burned down their homes, killed their children.  Soldiers and rebels alike sent entire towns into exile as people sought to escape the war, with only the clothes on their backs, and their small children running behind them in a desperate attempt to keep up.

Liberia still has a long way to go.  But look how far they've come.  All because women finally stood their ground and said "NO!" to the violence.  Pray the Devil Back to Hell is the movie that documents their movement.  It's been playing on our PBS station.
