Victory in California!

As the sun went down yesterday, I stood on the back patio watching the sky go from pink to orange to red and purple. I wondered if this would be the last day that official and legal discrimination in California would be allowed to stand.

I was in a conference this morning when my cell phone vibrated - true to her word, my sister text messaged me the great new that the Supreme Court of this state voted 4-3 to overturn the ban on same-sex marriage. It was all I could do to not jump out of my seat and shout to the crowd, "We've won! We've won!"

The sad thing is...my domestic partner and I had a bad night last night...and now I feel like a heel for the way I behaved. And I can't bring myself to call her (she might be asleep). I was a petulant drama queen. Would she even want to marry me now?

But as for the bigger picture: what a victory indeed.

Hey, by now, you've got it worked out. Of course she'll marry you. You two romantic kids.

I never had a doubt! We all have our moments, but she knows the real you...the one I love!

Perhaps now some of the bigots in other states and countries will begin to gnash their teeth in private until this discrimination is remembered with shame like so many others are now!

I hope it stands up. The mini-minds will be trying to make the ban a constitutional amendment any minute now.

As for you two lovebirds, of COURSE it will stand up.

donnah, thanks. it's been gratifying to hear from friends from all over the states on this issue.

annie, double YAY! Though the court ruled he still acted unlawfully, he did the right thing. Remember all the women who were ARRESTED for voting when that was illegal? Sheesh. Sometimes ya gotta break some eggs, er, laws....

alan, i'm quite concerned about a Nov. ballot initiative...the southern part of the state has a lot of biggots (as well as fine darned lefties) and a larger percentage of the population.

kathyr, we've gotta fight those mini-minds. watch for my next post, gf!

td - Thanks for letting me know about this. My son called me while I was volunteering at our congresswoman's reelection HQ and gave me the great news. I'm late in commenting, but still overjoyed. Now we again have to struggle with Arizona legislators and others who are working to put marriage=1 man + 1 woman into the AZ constitution, to "make sure nothing like CA's situation can happen in AZ."

Happy for you both!
